quack or doctor?

What's a doctor suppose to be like? Well at least before I became one, I thought that they are suppose to be human beings who are gentle, caring, compassionate or any other words that come close to the meaning of those words, and yes , they are the ones who are suppose to make everybody feel better, both physically and otherwise.
Now lets look at a modern day doctor - the first thing I notice is an air of above-the-normal-people superiority, not easily approachable, always busy (for what?), appears sophisticated though apparently not so (except a few), seems to know it all (far from the truth), and a host of other negative things about them. Of course I am not negating all the other truly qualified and otherwise very humane doctors who deserves all the respect due to them, but over time, I think the society has produced a group of classy professionals who, most of the times, have failed to live up to their calling which was intentionally meant to be so not-like-this.
When I was a student before entering medical school, almost everyone who wanted to become a doctor, said that their primary intention was to help people, especially the needy ones, and looking back now - I wonder what has happened to all the ideals we had then. I am not saying the we are not helping people at all, of course we are, in our own ways but in the most expensive and most unfriendly ways that we can have it - for e.g. if we want to help people, we should go to the people and help them when they need it but right now, there are no doctors in many peripheries where posts are created and yet they are mostly manned by nurses and other paramedical personnels who does their bests and strangely, I believe that after every month, someone with a medical degree somewhere is drawing that salary for which the post was created for someone to be there and actually working.
I know its easy to blame the system but its the people who has developed the system, and if there is a need to do something about it to change it, then it has to be the people who has to make it work again. So where are all the voices gone when these injustices are happening right amongst us?
And now we have this term called 'quacks' attached with it, a very negative connotation, which is usually used for traditional medical practitioners , and look down on them in every possible ways, which I think is not fair for many reasons and its not warranted, since these are the people who are there when some one in the community needs them with either their free service or very minimal charges and they do their share of goodness within their capacity, and very effectively so. When I say 'quacks' here, I don't mean those real unscrupulous cheaters who fakes for the sake of making money and for such, there are no excuses and should be condemned in the strongest sense. The good thing I find about the local healers are that, since many of our common illness needs just some reeassurances rather than any drastic medical interventions, they augment the society very well in their own ways, I do admit that there are things which are far beyond them which is a separate thing but neither do they claim to be able to handle everything unlike doctors who claims more than they know or are not humble enough to say 'I don't know'. Here I am just criticizing the callous attitude of doctors who looks down at every body who is not them, I am not attempting to defend the local healers in any way either.
Another ill of modern day medicine, and studies have shown, that an illness in the family is the most common cause of people going into debt and poverty and as such it cause a lot of harm too since the therapy that is offered by modern medicine is very expensive too, but i think this needs to be written more in the subsequent blogs since many things can be argued and opinions will differ too, this particular one is just opening our eyes to what ideal, yet not seen in real life yet. Will continue in the subsequent blog thoughts.....

Confused Generation

..... Suddenly out of the head hunting generation to this modern world of hi tech age where everything seems to be so blurred, just leaves me very very confused at times and keeps me wondering where I am heading to. There are time when I feel quite okay about myself and yet other times, juts can't help wondering whats the point of all the things we do each day. Are our forefathers better off than us? Maybe in certain ways, but I cannot confidently take their path if I am given to choose, because I think this modern world has its own good things too.... Is this confusion going to take me anywhere or bring me down? Maybe its just the hazard I have to live with and never really understand it, and right now I think I better just leave the confusing thoughts for the next post, I believe that a lot of you are also just like me, welcome to the club..... this is not the end, nor the beginning :)
